Description

Primary Purpose:

Transports food, supplies, and/or equipment to designated sites while maintaining vehicles in a sanitary and safe operating condition.  Assists with concessions and catering operations. 

 

Minimum Qualifications:

Education/Certification:

High school diploma or GED (Recognized by the Texas Education Agency or Regional Accrediting Agency)

Valid Texas driver’s license

Must have a driving record that is acceptable according to minimum standards adopted by DPS

Candidate must have satisfactory outcome of fingerprinting background check.  Non-refundable fee (approximately $50.00) paid by the employee.

 

Required Experience:

One (1) year of food service experience

 

Knowledge/Skills:

Ability to understand food preparation and safety instructions

Working knowledge of kitchen equipment and food production procedures

Ability to operate large and small kitchen equipment and tools

Ability to perform basic arithmetic operations

Ability to communicate verbally and written

Organization Management

The delivery driver/concessions employee manages administrative, fiscal, and facilities functions responsibly through activities such as the following: 

  • Makes daily deliveries of materials and supplies using district delivery vehicle
  • Transports food items, monies, supplies, and/or equipment for the purpose of delivering requested items to designated sites
  • Unloads food items, supplies, and/or equipment for the purposes of preparing items at designated sites
  • Responds to inquiries from site and/or district staff for the purpose of providing information and/or direction regarding status of deliveries, etc.
  • Maintains cleanliness of vehicle, equipment, and work area in accordance with applicable regulations and district standards
  • Maintains accurate records of items picked up and delivered
  • Maintains assigned vehicle and equipment in safe operating condition for the purpose of ensuring safe operation of vehicle and sanitation of transported food items
  • Collaborates and communicates with multiple stakeholders to ensure assistance with catering events and managerial assistance at various campuses/locations, as needed
  • Assists in the ordering/inventory of concessions products
  • Assists in the operation/scheduling of concession operated events
  • Collaborates, communicates, and provides guidance to Child Nutrition and volunteer staff for concession related events
  • Maintains concessions through the following functions (including, but not limited to): prepares concession stands for operation, prepare concession equipment for operation, prepare cash registers for use, post pricing and signage, pre-cleaning/post-cleaning activity of concessions area, pre-stocks concession items and paper goods, follows department procedures for conducting money counts, deposits, and safe lockup of all monies in predetermined locations
  • Assists in the preparation of quality food according to a planned menu of concession items
  • Serves food according to departmental policies, and procedures
  • Corrects storage and handling of food items and supplies
  • Follows established procedures to meet high standards of cleanliness, health, and safety
  • Operates tools and equipment according to prescribed safety standards
  • Keeps garbage collection containers and areas neat and sanitary 

Professional Growth and Development

The delivery driver/concessions employee provides leadership in professional growth and development through activities such as the following: 

  • Participates in meetings and professional development training for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform job functions
  • Completes annual continuing education requirements 

Qualities of an Effective Delivery Driver/Concessions Employee

The delivery driver/concessions employee exhibits qualities such as the following: 

  • Daily attendance and punctuality at work are essential functions of the job
  • Corrects unsafe conditions in work area and report any conditions that are not correctable to supervisor immediately
  • Promotes teamwork and interaction with fellow staff members
  • Maintains personal appearance and hygiene
  • Follows all HACCP standards and procedures
  • Compiles, maintains, and files all reports, records, and other documents as required
  • Complies with District policies, as well as state and federal laws and regulations
  • Complies with the standards of conduct set out in Board Policy DH (Legal) and (Local) and with any other policies, regulations, and guidelines that impose duties, requirements, or standards 

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • None 

Equipment:

Delivery vehicle, dollies, large and small kitchen equipment and tools including electric slicer, mixer, pressure steamer, deep-fat fryer, sharp cutting tools, ovens, dishwashers, and food and utility carts, and other equipment applicable to the position.

  • Works with frequent interruptions
  • Maintains emotional control under stress
  • Works irregular and extended work hours to include holidays and weekends
  • Frequent inter-district trave
  • Works inside in commercial kitchen environment: exposure to extreme hot and cold temperatures, extreme humidity, noise, vibration, microwaves, biological hazards (bacteria, mold, fungi), chemical hazards (fumes, vapors, gases), electrical hazards, work with hands in water; work around machinery with moving parts and work on slippery surfaces
  • Continual standing, walking, pushing, pulling, twisting, frequent stooping, bending, kneeling, (ladder), grasping/squeezing, wrist flexion/extension, reaching/overhead reaching, frequent moderate lifting and carrying, moderate exposure to extreme hot and cold temperatures
