Description

Primary Purpose:

Assist interventionist teacher in providing interventions, assist with keeping track of materials and student progress,  attend periodic training and participate in data meetings regarding reading interventions and student progress and other administrative requirements.  Work under the direction of certified teacher.

Minimum Qualifications: Education/Certificate

High School diploma or GED (Recognized by the Texas Education Agency or Regional Accrediting Agency)

Valid Texas Educational Aide certificate or 48 completed semester hours at an institution of higher education

Candidate must have satisfactory outcome of fingerprinting background check. Non-refundable fee (approximately $50) paid by employee.

 

Knowledge/Skills:

Bilingual preferred (read, write, listen, speak in English and Spanish)

Ability to work well with children

Ability to communicate effectively

 

Experience:

Experience working with children

Instructional Management

The assistant promotes improvement of instruction through activities such as the following:

 

  • Work with interventionist to provide full–time interventions to students
  • Assist with keeping track of resources
  • Work with interventionist to monitor progress weekly and/or biweekly and provide information in order to assist the interventionist teacher in making data driven decisions
  • Participate in data meetings to discuss student progress, including longitudinal data review
  • Participate in training and follow up training in order to assist in effectively implementing reading interventions
  • Serve as tutor in any area assigned by teacher

Classroom Management and Organization Improvement

The assistant works to improve the classroom, school, and organization through activities such as the following:

 

  • Help supervise students throughout school day, inside and outside classroom. This includes lunchroom, bus, and playground
  • Keep teacher informed of special needs or concerns with individual

 

Communication and Community Relations

The assistant works to promote a positive tone for school or community relations through activities such as the following:

 

  • Be a positive role model for students; support the mission of the
  • Maintain a professional relationship with colleagues, students, parents, and community
  • Use effective communication skills to present information accurately and clearly.

 

Professional Growth and Development

The assistant participates in professional growth and development through activities such as the following:

 

  • Attend any specified meetings and professional

Qualities of an Effective Assistant

The assistant exhibits qualities such as the following:

 

  • Daily attendance and punctuality at work are essential functions of the
  • Participate in staff development, faculty meetings, special events, and training programs to improve job
  • Correct unsafe conditions in work area that could cause an accident and inform supervisor of any conditions that are not correctable immediately.

Equipment:
