Description

Primary Purpose:

Re-pin lock cylinders; replace work tumblers, springs and other parts. Make duplicate copies of keys by key code and by hand; issue and maintain District-wide record of keys issued; create and maintain master key system to various schools and offices; enter related information into computer data base. Troubleshoot, repair, replace and maintain a variety of metal and wood doors, closers, panic bars, door holders, hinges and install latches and dead bolts and other security and emergency hardware. Perform a variety of general maintenance work and assist others with special projects as assigned.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

Education/Certification:              

High school diploma or GED (recognized by the Texas Education Agency or a regional accrediting agency)

Candidate must have satisfactory outcome of fingerprinting background check.  Non-refundable fee approximately $50.00) paid by the employee

Shall be subject to testing for use of alcohol or controlled substance that violates law or federal regulations

Safe driving record verified by Texas Department of Public Safety (meets and maintains liability coverage eligibility)

ALOA or other Locksmith Certification

 

Experience/Knowledge/Skills:

Ability to follow written and verbal instructions

Knowledge of basic construction and routine maintenance and repair procedures

Ability to communicate effectively (verbally)

Ability to use hand and power tools

Ability to work independently

Ability to lift a minimum of fifty (50) pounds

Ability to cut keys and identify key blanks

Ability to pin/ re-pin locks and hardware

Knowledge of the DSX Access Control Software

 

Experience:

Minimum one year of experience with locksmith and security products

 

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

The Building Security and Access Control Specialist, installs, maintains, repairs and adjusts various types of locks and their components for campus buildings, rooms, furniture and vehicles; cuts and issues keys; programs and issues key cards; implements, troubleshoots, repairs and programs computerized access control systems; upgrades and  maintains security systems; maintains and repairs  automatic door openers, door closing units and control  gates; services and maintains safes; inspects completed work for conformance with specifications, requirements and compliance with applicable building and safety codes and regulations; inspects related work performed by contractors; estimates cost, time and materials for locksmith projects; participates in the maintenance and operations of a locksmith shop. Must complete a minimum of eight (8) hours of continuing education per year and a security ethics course every other year.

  • Assist skilled workers with repair and maintenance of district facilities.

  • Detect and report needed major repairs on building locks and hardware, including lockers, furniture, and equipment

 

Organization Management

The B.S.A.C.S. manages administrative, fiscal, and facilities functions responsibly through activities such as the following:

  • Complete repairs as requested on work orders

 

Qualities of Effective Maintenance Workers

  • Daily attendance and punctuality at work are essential functions of the job
  • Operate light truck
  • Operate equipment and use tools following established safety procedures
  • Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties, including lifting, climbing, etc.
  • Correct unsafe conditions in the area and report any conditions that are not correctable to the supervisor immediately
  • Maintain tools and equipment and perform preventive maintenance as required
  • Respond to emergency calls when requested
  • Shall comply with District policies, as well as state and federal laws and regulations
  • Shall comply with the standards of conduct set out in Board Policy DH (Legal) and (Local) and with any other policies, regulations, and guidelines that impose duties, requirements, or standards

 

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • None

 

Equipment:

  • Power tools (drill, saw, etc.), hand tools, welder (gas and electric air),key machines, pick sets, locksmith tools (openers, wedges) and light truck or van and other equipment applicable to position

  • Occasional district wide and statewide travel
