Description

Primary Purpose:

Works to provide security and safety for students and campus staff. 

 

Minimum Qualifications:

Education/Certification

High School diploma or GED equivalent (recognized by the Texas Education Agency or a regional accrediting agency)

Candidate must have satisfactory outcome of fingerprinting background check. Non-refundable fee (approximately $50.00)    paid by employee.

 

Required Experience:

One (1) year experience working with students

 

Knowledge/Skills:

Ability to record information

Ability to follow verbal and written instructions

Ability to work effectively with teachers, school staff, and students

Knowledge of basic computer operations and skills

Ability to operate personal computer

Ability to communicate effectively

Organizational Management

The campus monitor assists with managing administrative, fiscal, and facilities functions responsibly through activities such as the following:

  • Monitors student behavior and enforce school rules related to student conduct, vehicle operation, and parking.
  • Assists campus staff in the supervision of students during arrival and dismissal from school.
  • Assists with the production of student identification badges as needed.
  • Checks student and visitor badges and ensure proper display of student and visitor identification badges.
  • Assists visitors and provide directions or act as a guide to authorized campus visitors as needed.
  • Works to prevent conflict or confrontation between students and report disturbances to campus principal.
  • Consults with campus principal regarding truant students or students seen out of class excessively.
  • Carries out daily walks of campus grounds and complete any necessary checks as prescribed by campus principal.
  • Monitors campus security camera system and pull recorded information as needed.
  • Assists campus administration in campus evacuation procedures and safety drills.
  • Reports graffiti, vandalism, or safety concerns in need of correction.
  • Registers student vehicles, issue vehicle permits, and maintain accurate records of registration as needed.
  • Works cooperatively with office personnel to inform students, staff, or parents of problems with vehicles (e.g., improperly parked vehicles, vehicles with lights on, etc.).
  • Controls traffic and parking on campus grounds as needed.
  • Notifies the campus principal of any situation that requires immediate attention.

  • Participates in staff development, faculty meetings, special events, and any specified training.

Qualities of Effective Campus Monitor

The campus monitor exhibits qualities such as the following:

 

  • Daily attendance and punctuality at work are essential functions of the job.
  • Maintains confidentiality of information.
  • Keeps campus administrators informed of urgent matters.
  • Corrects unsafe conditions in work areas and report any conditions that are not correctable to supervisor immediately.
  • Complies with District and center policies and procedures, as well as state and federal laws and regulations.
  • Complies with the standards of conduct set out in Board Policy DH (Legal) and (Local) and with any other policies, regulations, and guidelines that impose duties, requirements, or standards.
  • Performs any other duties as assigned by the administration.

 

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • None

 

Equipment

  • Two-way radio, computer, printer, copier, telephone, ID maker machine, campus security monitoring system, and other equipment applicable to the position.

  • Works irregular and extended work hours to include holidays and weekends.
  • Works with frequent interruptions and maintain emotional control under stress.
  • Continuous standing, walking, stooping, bending, kneeling, lifting (up to a minimum of fifty 50 pounds), and carrying.
  • Frequent exposure to: temperature extremes (hot and cold), humidity extremes, noise, low or intense illumination vibration.
  • Occasional exposure to: biological hazards (communicable diseases, bacteria, insects, mold, fungi, etc.), work outside, work around moving objects or vehicles, work on uneven surface.
