Primary Purpose:
The position is responsible for securing new funding opportunities through the development of proposals and grant applications which support Del Valle ISD’s mission and strategic plan. The position will locate appropriate grants for ongoing, current or future projects and present this information to appropriate administration. This includes, but is not limited to, researching, identifying, developing, recommending, monitoring, and responding to public and private grant opportunities. Assist district personnel with various aspects of Federal/State/District grant programs. This position requires strong attention to details.


Minimum Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree from accredited university
• Experience developing grant proposals. Demonstrated ability to develop successful federal grant proposals is highly preferred
• Candidate must have satisfactory outcome of fingerprinting background check. Non-refundable fee (approximately $50) paid by employee
Knowledge/Skills:
• Ability to analyze grant guidelines and apply comprehensive knowledge of educational content to grant requirement
• Ability to work on multiple high-stakes, deadline-driven projects simultaneously
• Work with multiple departments in the district to identify funding gaps and needs that could be satisfied with grant funding
• Gather information from appropriate departments to ensure conceptual understanding of a program for which funding is
sought
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Access, Excel, PowerPoint, and Word; Basic Statistics
• Ability to collect, organize, analyze and interpret budget information, provide budgetary projections and prepare accurate reports
• Ability to follow oral and written direction of a technical nature, work independently under minimal guidance
• Effective interpersonal and communication skills
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school administrators and staff

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

• Manages multiple stakeholders and complex grant development process, applying knowledge of educational content areas, district priorities, and proposal requirements to ensure that proposed strategies meet district needs while complying with grant guidelines
• Establishes operational objectives, work plans, timelines, and assignments for proposal development, determining how to use resources to meet objectives and schedules and collaborating with appropriate district staff and external partners
• Completes grant development process with minimal supervision, taking independent actions and making decisions as needed
• Ensures submission of complete and accurate applications within grant deadlines
• Reviews and routes MOUs, letters of support, and other application components in support of partner organizations applying for grants
• Collaborate across the organization to match internal plans with funder priorities in clear, thoughtful, engaging, grant-winning prose
• Coordinate the grant process by working with internal and external stakeholders to solicit, gather and assemble materials (budgets, graphics, program outcomes, etc.) and submit grants and reports on time and in an organized manner
• Provide grant management support to staff to ensure successful coordination of grant funded activities and projects; and ensure grant funds are used for appropriate purposes and within specified deadlines
• Assist with oversight of Campus Improvement Plans and Campus Needs Assessments as correlated to Federal/State/District grant programs

The grant specialist promotes a positive tone for school or community relations through activities such as the following:
• Work collaboratively with multiple stakeholders within and outside of the district
• Serve as district resource person to administrators and employees on Federal/State/District grant programs
• Promote collegiality, teamwork, and collaborative decision making among staff.


Professional Growth and Development
The grant specialist provides leadership in professional growth and development through activities such as the following:
• Assist with staff development or updates for district personnel as needed
• Assist with systems design for ongoing improvement within the Federal/State/District grants program
• Stay current in all areas of Federal/State and local grant management
• Assist in training campus administrators related to the use of Federal/State/District grant funding
• Pursue/participate in professional development activities in the area of grant management
Qualities of an Effective Grant Specialist


The grant specialist exhibits the following qualities:
• Comply with district and campus policies and procedures, as well as state and federal laws and regulations
• Comply with the standards of conduct set out in Board Policy DH (Legal) and (Local) and with any other policies, regulations, and guidelines that impose duties, requirements, or standards
• Maintain confidentiality
• Compile, maintain and file all reports, records, and other required documents
• Daily attendance and punctuality at work are essential functions of the job


Working Conditions
Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:
• Work irregular and extended work hours to include weekends, as needed
• Work with frequent interruptions and maintain emotional control under stress
• Occasional statewide travel
• Continual standing, walking, lifting, carrying, stooping, bending, and kneeling
• Limited exposure to hot and cold temperatures
