Description

Primary Purpose:

Coordinate collection and reporting of the District’s student Public Education Information Management System (PEIMS)/Texas Student Data System (TSDS) submissions.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

Education/Certification:              

Bachelor’s Degree and 3 years of experience with PEIMS data management or 5 years with PEIMS data management.

 

Experience/Knowledge/Skills:

  • Extensive knowledge of PEIMS Data Standards and collection methods
  • Knowledge of the Texas Education Data Standards (TEDS)
  • Extensive knowledge of the Student Attendance Accounting Handbook
  • Knowledge of student information software and user support

Instructional PEIMS Management

The director promotes improvement of PEIMS through activities such as the following:

 

  • Manages the District’s PEIMS / TSDS submissions related to student records maintenance for attendance, class scheduling, grade reporting, transcripts, demographic data, and other data linked to automated student records.
  • Assists campuses, and special program directors in managing automated student records to ensure compliance with established plans, policies, and procedures as related to PEIMS/TSDS.
  • Plans, executes and manages a continuing training and information dissemination program to enable administrators, special program directors, clerks, and teachers to effectively carry out District procedures respective to student records and PEIMS/TSDS reporting.
  • Sets timelines and schedules to ensure data is reported in accordance with State deadlines
  • Implements policies established by state law, State Board of Education rule, and local board policy in areas of information technology and management, related to PEIMS/TSDS
  • Compiles, maintains, and files all reports, records, and other documents required for PEIMS submissions and/or audits.
  • Runs, edits, reports and provides verification checks on data to ensure accuracy of information.
  • Distributes edits and reports to appropriate staff for analysis, verification, and correction.
  • Assists campuses and special program directors with data updates, compliant with PEIMS /TSDS submissions.
  • Works with the PEIMS staff to develop ad hoc reports to assist with data validations for PEIMS /
  • TSDS submissions
  • Coordinates assignment of PEIMS State Service ID's with Technology Services for all state approved courses, as described in PEIMS Data Standards /TEDS.
  • Responsible for data quality in compliance with PEIMS/TSDS/Student Attendance Accounting Handbook (SAAH).
  • Responsible for Personal Identification Database (PID) reporting: PID error percentage standards as described in the PEIMS Data Standards / TEDS.
  • Responsible for Person Enrollment Tracking (PET) reporting (PID enrollment tracking) as required by TEA PEIMS / TSDS.
  • Extensive knowledge of the Student Information System, as it relates to PEIMS / TSDS.
  • Develops and maintains a strong sense of customer service; communicates with various stakeholders, including campus personnel, District and state administrators, other Districts’ PEIMS / TSDS personnel, and software vendors
  • Responsible for developing training materials; trains and monitors District personnel in areas related to PEIMS / TSDS compliance.
  • Supports the campus PEIMS Clerks in day to day tasks.

  • Implement the policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rule, and local board policy in the area of information management and technology
  • Correct unsafe conditions in work area that could cause an accident and inform supervisor of any conditions that are not correctable immediately

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Supervises PEIMS and Data Services staff

 

Equipment:

  • Computer, scanner, printers, video equipment, sound systems, projection system, digital equipment, handheld devices, wireless hubs, calculator, telephone, copier, fax machine, answering machine, and shredder

 

Working Conditions:

  • Works irregular and extended work hours to include holidays and weekends
  • May report to various campuses within the district for a full work day
  • Works with frequent interruptions and maintain emotional control under stress
  • Continual standing, walking, lifting, carrying, stooping, bending, and kneeling
  • Limited exposure to hot and cold temperatures
  • Frequent exposure to: temperature extremes (hot and cold), humidity extremes, noise, low or intense illumination vibration. Occasional exposure to: biological hazards (communicable diseases, bacteria, insects, mold, fungi, etc.), work outside, work around moving objects or vehicles, work on uneven surfaces
  • Frequent district wide travel and occasional statewide travel
