Description

Primary Purpose:

Locates and identifies children 0-2 years of ages that are suspected to have a disability that are not yet enrolled in a public, private, county, or state school. Coordinates transition services for infants (to age 2) to public school and 18 plus students as they transition to employment.  Coordinates with various agencies to provide services and supports to move children closer to age-expected functioning. 

Facilitates appropriate instructional services in mainstream settings to assist students with disability as they access TEKS.

Minimum Qualifications:

   Education/Certification                

   Master’s degree from an accredited university

   Valid Texas Special Education Certification

   Principal or Mid-Management Certification

   Candidate must have satisfactory outcome of fingerprinting background check. Non-refundable fee (approximately $50) paid by employee.

 

Required Experience:

Minimum of three (3) years’ working with children with disabilities

 

Knowledge/Skills:

Ability to work well with a diverse groups

Bilingual preferred

Professionalism

The Educators' Code of Ethics is set forth in Texas Administrative Code to provide rules for standard practices and ethical conduct toward students, professional colleagues, school officials, parents, and members of the community.

Data Management

The coordinator assists with fostering analytical and collaborative environment activities such as the following: 

  • In takes information from parents with concerns of their child’s development
  • Schedules and conducts initial appointments with parents and children to initiate evaluation
  • Schedules and attends ARD meetings as necessary including acting as the district representative
  • Schedules, attends and facilitates ECI transition meetings
  • Coordinates with and provides information to ECI service coordinators to help with transition services
  • Enters state performance compliance data for state performance indicators 13 & 14
  • Requests reports from outside agencies, doctors and hospitals
  • Screens referrals from Child Inc., Any Baby Can, ECI, etc.

 

Organization Management

The coordinator manages administrative, fiscal, and facilities functions responsibly through activities such as the following:

 

  • Writes up program observations and make recommendations
  • Coordinates collaboration with general education teachers on differentiated instruction and scaffolded lessons to meet the needs of all learners.
  • Coordinates the co-teach program on all district campuses and supports all co-taught classes
  • Coordinates transition services for students with disability within DVISD starting at age 14 & with community agencies for all graduating and 18 + students
  • Acts as the TED for the district (Transition & Employment Services Designee)

 

 

Instructional Management

The coordinator promotes improvement of instruction through activities such as the following:

 

  • Explains ARD, continuum of services and enrollment process
  • Monitors use of curriculum, data collection, classroom management, classroom structure, materials and collaboration

 

 

Communication and Community Relations

The coordinator promotes a positive tone for school or community relations through activities such as the following:

  • Informs campus counselors and parent liaisons of Child Find resources and procedures
  • Distributes Child Find pamphlets and information to DVISD campuses and district outreach agencies
  • Assists parents with hearing screening resources
  • Follows up on enrollment and needed forms from parents and ECI

 

 

Professional Growth and Development

The coordinator provides leadership in professional growth and development through activities such as the following:

  • Attends professional development to improve educational practices
  • Schedules professional development activities with community agencies and teaching teams
  • Participates in staff development activities to improve skills related to job assignment

 

Qualities of an Effective Transition & Instruction Coordinator

The coordinator exhibits qualities such as the following:

 

  • Daily attendance and punctuality at work are essential functions of the job
  • Complies with district and campus policies and procedures, as well as state and federal laws and regulations
  • Complies with the standards of conduct set out in Board Policy DH (Legal) and (Local) and with any other policies, regulations, and guidelines that impose duties, requirements, or standards
  • Demonstrates a high level of personal integrity, a collaborative leadership style, and high ethical standards
  • Keeps informed of and comply with state, district, and campus policies affecting schools
  • Compiles, maintains and files all reports, records, and other required documents
  • Maintains confidentiality
  • Other duties as assigned

 

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Assigned staff

 

 

Equipment:

Computer, computer software programs and peripherals, printer, scanner, calculator, copier, fax, and other equipment applicable to the position.

  • Work irregular and extended work hours to include holidays and weekends
  • Occasional statewide travel
  • Work with frequent interruptions and maintain emotional control under stress
  • Continual standing, walking, lifting, carrying, stooping, bending, and kneeling
  • Limited exposure to hot and cold temperatures
  • Frequent exposure to temperature extremes (hot and cold), humidity extremes, noise, low or intense illumination vibration
  • Occasional exposure to biological hazards (communicable diseases, bacteria, insects, mold, fungi), work outside, work around moving objects or vehicles, work on uneven surfaces
