Primary Purpose:

Coordinate the activities of the Human Resources Department to ensure legally sound and effective human resources management practices for the recruitment, retention and staff wellness for the district.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

Education/Certification:              

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college/university or five (5) years of related experience

Valid Texas Teacher Certification preferred

Valid Principal Certifications preferred

Candidate must have satisfactory outcome of fingerprinting background check. Non-refundable fee (approximately $50.00) paid by the employee

 

Experience/Knowledge/Skills:

Knowledge of Texas employment laws and teacher certification rules and procedures

Ability to interpret and disseminate information to individuals and groups

Effective communication and interpersonal skills

Ability to use personal computer and software to develop spreadsheets, databases, and documents

Ability to develop and deliver training to adult learners

Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality

Knowledge of principles and practices of personnel administration

Proficiency in the use of position management programs/systems

 

Experience:

Minimum of three (3) years’ teaching experience preferred

Minimum of three (3) years’ experience in human resources or related field

Professionalism

Instructional Management

The coordinator promotes improvement of instruction through activities such as the following:

  • Coordinate tracking of the New Teacher Support System (NTSS) in collaboration with the curriculum and instruction designated personnel
  • Coordinate tracking of the Grow Your Own programs.
  • Organize, maintain and implement the approved evaluation system for all district personnel
  • Coordinate and implement the new teacher stop light protocol
  • Serve as a liaison for the university based educational programs and Region 13

 

 

 

Organization Climate

The coordinator fosters a positive school or organization morale through activities such as the following:

  • Present a positive role model that supports the mission of the school district and the HR department
  • Use management practices that promote collegiality, teamwork, and collaborative decision making among               staff
  • Reinforce excellence by employing the Del Valle ISD motto “Whatever it takes”
  • Promote a positive caring climate and work environment
  • Use effective communication skills

 

Organization Improvement

The coordinator promotes efforts to improve the school or organization through activities such as the following:

  • Prepare recruitment, retention and staff wellness programs
  • Assist with the input and maintenance of information in the employee database
  • Assist with the preparation of the HR department budget 
  • Organize student teacher programs through the University outreach.

 

Communication and Community Relations

The coordinator promotes a positive tone for school or community relations through activities such as the following:

  • Keep supervisor(s) informed of matters which might require their attention
  • Prepare correspondence, forms, and reports using personal computer
  • Develop and maintain active relationships with college and university career teacher preparation officials and placement offices, Regional Education Service Center staff, professional associations, and other recruiting resources organizations.

 

Organization Management

The coordinator manages administrative, fiscal, and facilities functions responsibly through activities such as the following:

  • Compile personnel documents as directed by supervisor(s) including, but not limited to contracts, letters of reasonable assurance and employee work agreements
  • Update and maintain forms on the district server and on the HR website
  • Update and maintain new teacher orientations
  • Compile and submit monthly reports to Superintendent’s office concerning recruitment, retention and staff wellness.
  • Coordinate employee orientation program and have oversight of delivery presentation
  • Organize recruiting trips for the district and participate in recruiting job fairs at universities and other presentation organizations
  • Develop and maintain recruiting materials and displays
  • Plan and coordinate annual district job fairs
  • Organize recruitment efforts for job fairs with media
  • Work with principals and supervisors to identify and select personnel for all assignments; screen and interview applicants and recommend candidates for final interview or hire or placement
  • Develop and implement effective recruiting strategies; analyze results annually and make changes as needed
  • Identify optimum recruiting opportunities and represent the district at key recruiting fairs and events
  • Oversee the recruitment, retention and staff wellness process, monitor for effectiveness, and make recommendations for changes as needed

 

Professional Growth and Development

The coordinator participates in professional growth and development through activities such as the following:

  • Manage cross training of HR department personnel in order to insure efficiency and development
  • Attend professional and staff development and training as needed to improve job performance

 

Qualities of Effective Coordinators:

  • Daily attendance and punctuality at work are essential functions of the job
  • Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties, including lifting, climbing, etc.
  • Maintain confidentiality of information
  • Correct unsafe conditions in work area and report any conditions that are not correctable to supervisor immediately
  • Shall comply with District policies, as well as state and federal laws and regulations
  • Shall comply with the standards of conduct as set out in Board Policy DH (Legal) and (Local) and with any other policies, regulations, and guidelines that impose duties, requirements, or standards

 

 

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Assist with oversight of para professionals in the department

 

Equipment:

  • Personal computer, printer, calculator, multi-line telephone, copier, fax machine, postage machine, answering machine, scanner, shredder, and other equipment related to the position
  • Must have reliable mode of transportation

 

Working Conditions:

Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:

  • Work irregular and extended work hours to include holidays and weekends
  • Work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stress
  • Position may require periods of sitting at computer or standing at copier
  • Some lifting of boxes
  • Use of vehicle is necessary to run errands and pick up supplies as necessary
