Primary Purpose:

Provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences designed to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth in an afterschool setting. Enable students to develop competencies and skills to function successfully in society. Programs include various indoor and outdoor hands-on academic and enrichment activities including but not limited to Dance, Chess, Robotics, Gardening, Math Camp, and Sports. Program hours for elementary campuses are 3:00 – 6:00 PM and program hours for secondary campuses are 4:00 – 7:00 PM.

  

Minimum Qualifications:

Education/Certification:           

High school diploma or GED equivalent (recognized by the Texas Education Agency or regional accrediting agency)
Candidate must have satisfactory outcome of fingerprinting background check. Non-refundable fee (approximately $50.00) paid by employee.

Required Experience:

Experience working with school based personnel, community groups, and or youth groups

 

Knowledge/Skills:

Working with students
Strong behavior management
Classroom lesson planning
Experience teaming
Ability to multi-task

Organization Improvement

The instructor promotes efforts to improve the school or organization through activities such as the following: 

  • Adheres to general instruction and guidance from enrichment program specialist. 
  • Quality of work is reviewed by principal and enrichment program specialist on a regular basis and feedback is provided.  

Professional Growth and Development

The instructor provides leadership in professional growth and development through activities such as the following: 

  • Attends all trainings as assigned; become an integral and contributing member of the after school team. 
  • Follows the guidelines set forth by campus and district. 

Qualities of an Effective After School Instructor

The instructor exhibits the following qualities:  

  • Daily attendance and punctuality at work are essential functions of the job.
  • Complies with District policies, as well as state and federal laws and regulations.
  • Complies with the standards of conduct set out in Board Policy DH (Legal) and (Local) and with any other policies, regulations, and guidelines that impose duties, requirements, and standards.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • None

Equipment:

Equipment applicable to the after school instructor assignment.  

 

Working Conditions:

Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors: 

  • Works irregular and extended work hours to include holidays and weekends
  • Work swith frequent interruption and maintain emotional control under stress.
  • This position may involve rare exposure to blood or body fluids.
