Description

Primary Purpose:
Under general supervision, operate and maintain wastewater and irrigation systems in accordance with TECQ standards.


Minimum Qualifications
Education/Certification:
High school diploma or GED equivalent (Recognized by the Texas Education Agency or regional accrediting agency)
Shall be subject to testing for use of alcohol or controlled substance that violate law or federal regulations

Valid Texas driver’s license
Safe driving record verified by the Texas Department of Public Safety (meets and maintains liability coverage eligibility)
Possess or obtain a Class C Wastewater License within one (1) year of hire.
Candidate must have satisfactory outcome of fingerprinting background check. Nonrefundable fee (approximately $50.00) paid by employee.


Knowledge/Skills:
Knowledge of district facilities
Knowledge of irrigation and wastewater treatment
Ability to read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, schematics, and written reference material
Ability to diagnose and resolve problems
Ability to work independently
Ability to lift a minimum of fifty (50) lbs.


Experience:
Three (3) years’ experience in irrigation, plumbing and maintenance

Organization Management
The wastewater operator/irrigation specialist manages administrative, fiscal, and facilities functions responsibly through activities such as the following:

  • Receive and complete work orders as assigned.
  • Relocate and expand existing irrigation systems.
  • Fabricate, assemble, and install piping according to specifications and code.
  • Maintain all documentation for district, COA, state and federal compliance for the wastewater system.
  • Perform preventive maintenance on tools and equipment.
  • Maintain the wastewater plant and drain field to standards set forth by TCEQ.

Organization Improvement
The wastewater operator/irrigation specialist promotes efforts to improve the school or organization through activities such as the following:

  • Diagnose and repair malfunctions in various types of irrigation and wastewater systems.
  • Inspect jobs upon completion and ensure areas are picked up.
  • Maintain preventive maintenance schedules and procedures for all irrigation equipment and wastewater systems.
  • Assist in the effort to reduce water consumption for natural resource conservation.

Communication and Community Relations
The wastewater operator/irrigation specialist promotes a positive tone for school or community relations through activities such as the following:

  • Work with building principals and supervisors to complete projects.

Qualities of an Effective Wastewater Operator/Irrigation Specialist
The wastewater operator/irrigation specialist exhibits qualities such as the following:

  • Daily attendance and punctuality at work are essential functions of the job.
  • Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties, including lifting, climbing, etc.
  • Operate tools and equipment according to established safety procedures.
  • Perform preventative maintenance on tools and equipment.

  • Correct unsafe conditions in work area and report any conditions that are not correctable to supervisor immediately.

Equipment:
Light truck or van operation, computer, cell phone, digital camera, electronic media for training purposes, grounds equipment plumbing equipment, and all other equipment applicable with the position.

 

Working Conditions
Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:

  • Work irregular and extended work hours to include holidays and weekends.
  • Respond to emergency call as needed, including but not limited to being available for “on call” for after regular hours.
  • Strenuous walking, standing, climbing, pulling pushing, reaching, heavy lifting and carrying.
  • Work outside and inside, on slippery and uneven walking surfaces, and ladders.
  • Work in tiring and uncomfortable positions: outside and inside.
  • Exposure to: temperature extremes, humidity extremes, noise, low or intense illumination, vibration, dust, toxic chemicals and materials, and biological hazards.
  • Frequent district wide travel.
