Primary Purpose:

Plan, recommend, organize, and direct the implementation of digital learning.

 

Qualifications:

Minimum Education/Certification:             

Valid Texas Teacher Certificate

Candidate must have satisfactory outcome of fingerprinting background check. Non-refundable fee (approximately $50) paid

by employee.

 

Required Experience:        

Three (3) years’ classroom teaching experience

Experience integrating technology into digital learning environments

Experience working with adult learners

Experience training teachers or other adults in the integration of technology for instruction

Experience evaluating software and media based on curriculum, learning styles, and instructional methodologies

Experience in the use of internet resources in the instructional process

Possess current and relevant technology skills including word processing, database, spreadsheet, Web page development, presentation, digital video and audio editing, image processing, and graphics applications

 

Knowledge/Skills:             

Have a practical knowledge of instructional technologies

Possess strong interpersonal and communication skills

Have the ability to work with minimum supervision and as a member of a self-directed team

Must be able to lift, move and connect computer and video related equipment

Must be willing to flex work schedule as needed to fulfill job responsibilities

Must be able to balance priorities at multiple sites

Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license and a vehicle to provide own transportation

Instructional Management

The specialist promotes improvement of instruction by assisting with activities such as the following:

  • Collaborate with teachers to support their use of technology in delivery of curricula through a variety of instructional methods.
  • In partnership with multiple stakeholders, work toward integrating the use of hardware, software, and Internet resources in support of student learning and assisting teachers in meeting state and national standards for subject-area and technology-learning objectives.
  • Create learning resources for teachers, staff, and students, to include Web sites, tutorials, interactive programs and databases that support teachers in integrating technology.
  • Understand methods for integrating technology into the curriculum such as project-based and blended learning.

Organization Management

The specialist assists with managing administrative, fiscal, and facilities functions responsibly through activities such as the following:

  • Design and structure the technology education of teachers.
  • Refine current and relevant technology skills including word processing, database, spreadsheet, Web page development, presentation, digital video and audio editing, image processing, and graphics applications.
  • Create, maintain, and oversee integration of the school’s technology plan with a technology committee.
  • Compile budgets and cost estimated based on documented program needs.
  • Generate accurate inventory reports for grants and special programs.

Organization Improvement

The specialist promotes leadership in efforts to improve the organization through activities such as the following:

  • Understand key learning theories and methods of instruction, and their relation to technology integration.
  • Use effective technology teaching strategies in teaching software and hardware skills.
  • Identify trends in software, curriculum, teaching strategies, and other educational areas.
  • Assess technology skill levels of students, teachers, and staff.
  • Consult with the Director of Instructional Technology on the technology budget for computer resources, including hardware, software, learning resources and training needs.
  • Recommend the purchase of hardware, software, and related resources.

Communication and Community Relations

The specialist promotes a positive tone for community relations through activities such as the following:

  • Communicate and work collaboratively with employees, administrators, parents, and outside organizations for the purpose of providing administrative support, enhancing program awareness, and assisting with technology implementation of instructional programs.

Professional Growth and Development

The specialist provides leadership in professional growth and development through activities such as the following:

  • Participate in campus and district technology staff development, special events, professional associations, and training programs to improve job performance.
  • Attend professional growth activities to keep abreast of innovations in instructional technologist methods and technologies.
  • Disseminate ideas and information to other professionals.
  • Seek and use evaluative information for improvement of performance.

Qualities of an Effective Technology Specialist

The specialist exhibits qualities such as the following:

  • Comply with district and campus policies and procedures, as well as state and federal laws and regulations.
  • Comply with the standards of conduct set out in Board Policy DH (Legal) and (Local) and with any other policies, regulations, and guidelines that impose duties, requirements, or standards.
  • Demonstrate a high level of personal integrity, a collaborative leadership style, and high ethical standards.
  • Keep informed of and comply with state, district, and campus policies affecting schools.
  • Compile, maintain and file all reports, records and other required documents.
  • Daily attendance and punctuality at work are essential functions of the job.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Maintain confidentiality.

Supervisory Responsibilities: 

Assist the campus principal in the supervision/evaluation of campus Technology Applications teachers.   

 

Equipment:

Computer, computer software programs and peripherals, teacher resource materials and equipment, projections system, digital equipment, handheld devices, wireless hubs, calculator, telephone, printer, copier, shredder, scanner, fax, and other equipment applicable to position.

 

Working Conditions:

Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors: 

  • Frequent exposure to: temperature extremes (hot and cold), humidity extremes, noise, low or intense illumination vibration.
  • Occasional exposure to: biological hazards (communicable diseases, bacteria, insects, mold, fungi, etc.).
  • Work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stress.
  • Frequent walking, standing, stooping, bending, pulling and pushing.
  • Lifting and carrying up to 20 lbs.
  • Frequent district wide travel and occasional statewide travel.
  • Use computer for prolonged period resulting in repetitive hand motions.
  • Work irregular and extended work hours to include holidays and weekends.
