Primary Purpose:

The 21st Century Project Director for Afterschool Programs is responsible for overseeing and coordinating all aspects of the After School program. The Director works to ensure both the quality and effectiveness of the After School program.  They are responsible for the effectiveness of planning, policies, and achievement of district goals. They collaborate with upper management to establish policies and guidelines around the development, implementation, support, and maintenance and effectiveness of the After School Programs. 

 

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • 2+ years experience successfully overseeing large projects meeting tight deadlines
  • Leadership/supervisory experience
  • Experience working with budgets
  • Four-year Degree in Education or related field

Knowledge/Skills:

  • Microsoft Office Ability to manage multiple tasks at multiple sites. 
  • Ability to read, analyze, interpret, and communicate governmental and funding    regulations and guidelines.  
  • Ability to write and develop reports, business correspondence, testing materials, and procedure manuals.  
  • Proven ability to work effectively with a team
  • Excellent verbal, writing and presentation skills 
  • Demonstrate good computer and record keeping skills

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

Professionalism 

The Educators' Code of Ethics is set forth in the Texas Administrative Code to provide rules for standard practices and ethical conduct toward students, professional colleagues, school officials, parents, and members of the community.

Budget Management

The project director ensures fiscal compliance and organizes data and figures

  • Coordinates and approves implementation of budget development, funding plans, and strategic planning processes in accordance with district goals and policies and TEA grant guidelines and requirements. 
  • Ensures programs are administered within approved budget parameters.  

Instructional Management 

The project director searches best practices and determines effective means for implementation of such practices into the curriculum, instruction, and assessment of programs. 

  • Leads discussions on evolving demands and expectations and their impacts on out-of-school time programs in the district. 

Annual Strategic Planning

The project director conducts annual strategic planning across the grant to ensure programming is high-quality, data-driven, student-focused, and grant compliant.

  • Manages direction of After School Programs to increase the quality and effectiveness of programs in the district. 
  • Ensures results in terms of effectiveness of planning, policies, and achievement of district goals through the After School Programs.   
  • Determines the need for and formulates policies necessary to implement and align programming with district goals to ensure effective implementation of and operation out-of-school time programs. 

Program Compliance

The project director ensures adherence to TEA systems and reporting requirements for compliance and quality monitoring, technical assistance and training, and state and local evaluation.

 

Communication and Community Relations

The project director collaborates and solves problems.

  • Works with others to resolve problems, clarify or interpret complex information/policies, and provide initial screening/negotiations.
  • Promotes a positive tone for district, school or community relations.
  • Meets regularly with school administrators, teachers, district administrators, school staff, participants, outside organizations, parents, and general public to promote enrichment program goals and objectives.
  • Interacts regularly with specialist, site-coordinator, principals, and district administrators to facilitate programs and communicate information regarding problems, concerns, events, etc.
  • Promotes district goals, mission, and District Improvement Plan at parent and faculty meetings.
  • Presents program details, goals and progress to all participating administrators and/or staff.

Staff  Management

The project director supervises the program specialist and site coordinators, train staff, and maintain productive working relationships with the state office, contractors, district and school staff, program staff, partners, and vendors. 

  • Recruits and selects specialist,  site-coordinators, and vendors for enrichment classes, activities, and events with principal collaboration.
  • Answers, promptly and positively, to all stakeholder concerns and questions 
  • Supports specialist and site-coordinator with activity plan development, behavior management and program concerns.  

Operations Management

The Project Director ensures a high-quality, safe, and supportive environment for program participants, staff, and partners. The enrichment program director promotes efforts to improve the school or organization. 

  • Oversees organizational management in all assigned areas and coordinates with other central office departments to ensure aligned supports are provided to stakeholders. 
  • Manages administrative, fiscal, and appropriate facilities functions responsibly.

Internal Monitoring

The project director conducts and documents ongoing internal monitoring to ensure quality and compliance and provide feedback to each center through site observations, data reviews, stakeholder surveys, and related activities.

  • Analyzes forecasting tools and strategies to predict future needs of out-of-school time programs. Assesses and compares outcomes to determine program effectiveness and changing needs of students and parents.

Leadership Responsibilities

Regularly provides project management or team leadership to a group of two or more employees. Leading, directing, and  monitoring work and providing guidance on escalated issues. Most of work time is spent performing many of the same duties they are leading.

 

Equipment:

  • Personal computer, printer, calculator, telephone, copier, fax machine, shredder, and other equipment associated with the position. 
  • Work is performed in a standard office environment.
  • Incumbent has the ability to use a defibrillator.

  • Work irregular and extended work hours to include holidays and weekends __- if needed Saturday tournaments/competitions.
  • Work with frequent interruption and maintain emotional control under stress.
  • Position may require periods of sitting at the computer and driving to different campuses..
  • This position may involve rare exposure to blood or body fluids.
  • Work is normally performed in a typical interior work environment which does not subject the employee to any hazardous or unpleasant elements.
  • Ability to carry and/or lift less than 45 pounds.
