Description

Primary Purpose:

Assists in the integration, accountability, and maintenance of campus technology hardware and software.  

 

Minimum Qualifications:

Education/Certificate

High School diploma or GED (Recognized by the Texas Education Agency or Regional Accrediting Agency)

Valid Texas Educational Aide certificate or NCLB Certification Required

Candidate must have satisfactory outcome of fingerprinting background check. Non-refundable fee (approximately $50) paid   by employee.

 

Required Experience:

One (1) year experience working with children

One (1) year experience installing, maintaining, and repairing computers and peripherals

 

Knowledge/Skills:

Knows technology terminology and concepts

Knows the appropriate use of hardware components, operating systems, software applications, and networking component

Know how to perform basic application functions

Knows how to select, connect, and use a variety of input, output, and storage devices and peripherals

Knows how to access, manage, and manipulate information from secondary storage devices.

Ability to work with students and teachers effectively

Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and written

Instructional Management

The technology assistant promotes improvement of instruction through activities such as the following:

  • Assists teachers and students in the use and integration of a variety of campus technology, including but not limited to, computers, printers, mobile devices, digital cameras, document cameras, LCD projectors, student response systems, learning management systems, and instructional software
  • Works cooperatively with teachers to assist with technology integration in the classroom
  • Provides maintenance and support of campus technology to support instruction

Organization Improvement

The technology assistant works to improve the school or organization through activities such as the following:

  • Maintains physical and computerized files on student progress and use of instructional programs
  • Maintains physical and computerized files on the inventory of campus software programs
  • Maintaind campus inventory with responsibility of recording and maintaining accurate asset records in the district asset management system
  • Installs a variety of computer programs following complex written instructions
  • Coordinates with district technicians for maintenance and repair of technology equipment; Assists with the installation, inventory, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of district equipment
  • Works with district staff to coordinate technology maintenance

Communication and Community Relations

The technology assistant works to promote a positive tone for school or community relations through activities such as the following:  

  • Promotes clear communication of technology processes involving technology tools check-out/check-in and setup for instruction
  • Promotes and assists with clear communication regarding technology support systems
  • Provides support to community with information about technology initiatives, goals, and access to campus technology

Professional Growth and Development

The technology assistant participates in professional growth and development through activities such as the following:  

  • Participates in campus and district technology staff development, faculty meetings, special events, and training programs to improve job performance     

Qualities of an Effective Technology Assistant

The technology assistant exhibits qualities such as the following:  

  • Daily attendance and punctuality at work are essential functions of the job.
  • Keeps informed of and comply with state, District, and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers.
  • Compiles, maintains, and files reports, records, and other documents as required.
  • Corrects unsafe conditions in work area that could cause an accident and inform supervisor of any conditions that are not correctable immediately.
  • Complies with District policies, as well as state and federal laws and regulations.
  • Complies with the standards of conduct set out in Board Policy DH (Legal) and (Local) and with any other policies, regulations, and guidelines that impose duties, requirements, and standards.
  • Maintains confidentiality.
  • Performs any duties as assigned by the administration and the Department of Technology.

Supervisory Responsibilities

None  

 

Equipment:

Computer, computer software programs and peripherals, teacher resource materials and audiovisual equipment, adaptive equipment, digital camera, student response systems, learning management systems, printer, scanner, copier, fax and other equipment applicable to the position.

 

Working Conditions

Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors  

  • Maintains emotional control under stress.
  • Works with frequent interruptions.
  • Works irregular hour and extended work hours to include holidays and weekends.
  • Frequent walking, standing, stooping, bending, pulling and pushing.
  • Occasional light lifting and carrying (15-44 pounds); may lift and move textbooks and classroom equipment.
  • Occasional district wide and statewide travel.
  • Uses computer for prolonged period resulting in repetitive hand motion.
  • Frequent exposure to: temperature extremes (hot and cold), humidity extremes, noise, low or intense illumination vibration.
  • Occasional exposure to: biological hazards (communicable diseases, bacteria, etc.), work outside, work around moving objects or vehicles, work on uneven surfaces.
