Primary Purpose:

Work to provide security and safety for students and campus staff. 

 

Minimum Qualifications:

Education/Certification

High School diploma or GED (recognized by the Texas Education Agency or a regional accrediting agency)

Candidate must have satisfactory outcome of fingerprinting background check. Non-refundable fee (approximately $50.00) paid by employee.

 

Required Experience:

One (1) year experience working with students

 

Knowledge/Skills:

Ability to record information

Ability to follow verbal and written instructions

Ability to work effectively with teachers, school staff, and students

Knowledge of basic computer operations and skills

Ability to operate personal computer

Ability to communicate effectively

Organizational Management

The campus monitor assists with managing administrative, fiscal, and facilities functions responsibly through activities such as the following:

  • Monitor student behavior and enforce school rules related to student conduct, vehicle operation, and parking.
  • Assist campus staff in the supervision of students during arrival and dismissal from school.
  • Assist with the production of student identification badges as needed.
  • Check student and visitor badges and ensure proper display of student and visitor identification badges.
  • Assist visitors and provide directions or act as a guide to authorized campus visitors as needed.
  • Work to prevent conflict or confrontation between students and report disturbances to campus principal.
  • Consult with campus principal regarding truant students or students seen out of class excessively.
  • Carry out daily walks of campus grounds and complete any necessary checks as prescribed by campus principal.
  • Monitor campus security camera system and pull recorded information as needed.
  • Assist campus administration in campus evacuation procedures and safety drills.
  • Report graffiti, vandalism, or safety concerns in need of correction.
  • Register student vehicles, issue vehicle permits, and maintain accurate records of registration as needed.
  • Work cooperatively with office personnel to inform students, staff, or parents of problems with vehicles (e.g., improperly parked vehicles, vehicles with lights on, etc.)
  • Control traffic and parking on campus grounds as needed.
  • Notify the campus principal of any situation that requires immediate attention.

  • Participate in staff development, faculty meetings, special events, and any specified training.

Qualities of Effective Campus Monitor

The campus monitor exhibits qualities such as the following:  

  • Daily attendance and punctuality at work are essential functions of the job.
  • Maintain confidentiality of information.
  • Keep campus administrators informed of urgent matters.
  • Correct unsafe conditions in work areas and report any conditions that are not correctable to supervisor immediately.
  • Comply with District and center policies and procedures, as well as state and federal laws and regulations.
  • Comply with the standards of conduct set out in Board Policy DH (Legal) and (Local) and with any other policies, regulations, and guidelines that impose duties, requirements, or standards.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by the administration.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • None

Equipment

Two-way radio, computer, printer, copier, telephone, ID maker machine, and campus security monitoring system.

 

Working Conditions:

Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors: 

  • Work irregular and extended work hours to include holidays and weekends.
  • Work with frequent interruptions and maintain emotional control under stress.
  • Continuous standing, walking, stooping, bending, kneeling, lifting (up to a minimum of fifty 50 pounds), and carrying.
  • Frequent exposure to: temperature extremes (hot and cold), humidity extremes, noise, low or intense illumination vibration.
  • Occasional exposure to: biological hazards (communicable diseases, bacteria, insects, mold, fungi, etc.), work outside, work around moving objects or vehicles, work on uneven surface.
