Description

Primary Purpose:

Performs on-site technical work to install, maintain, and/or manage computer equipment, networks, audio/visual, and software applications throughout the district. Responds to work order requests by diagnosing and repairing network and computer hardware and audio/visual equipment.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

 

Education/Certification:

High school diploma or GED, CompTIA A+ or equivalent certification (planned or in-progress accepted)

      

Knowledge/Skills:

Knowledge of computer workstation setup.

Knowledge of computer hardware and software applications.

Knowledge of audio/visual systems

Knowledge of all applicable federal, state, and local laws, guidelines and procedures.

Knowledge of established safety procedures and techniques.

Knowledge of Windows and Mac OS desktop operating systems.

Skill in installing, maintaining, and minor repairs of computers and peripherals including printers, USB devices, and

scanners.

Skill in diagnosing problems and performing repairs.

Skill in working with various types of equipment including, but not limited to computers, printers, scanners,

interactive devices, projection devices.

Skill in working in collaborative team based environments, as well as good inter-personal communication skills.

Skill in written, verbal, and technical communication.

 

Experience:

1-year work experience installing, maintaining, and repairing computers and peripherals including audio/visual hardware.

  • Maintenance and support of district technology to support instruction

Organization Improvement

The District Technician promotes leadership in efforts to improve the school or organization through activities such as the following:

 

  • Installs and upgrades computers and peripherals throughout the district; creates and maintains current images for district computers; relocate computer hardware, peripherals, and equipment as needed; install and configure software as requested; assist with the installation, inventory, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of data communication circuits and audio/visual equipment.
  • Diagnoses and repairs equipment including printers, terminals, projectors/interactive presenters, and district owned computers; service equipment according to established preventative maintenance schedule; maintain accurate updated records of preventive maintenance; maintain accurate records of time and materials required to perform repairs and service; maintain and inventory equipment, parts, and stock purchases.

 

Communication and Community Relations

The District Technician promotes a positive tone for school or community relations through activities such as the following:

 

  • Establishes and maintains regular written and in-person communication; develops and maintains technical documentation related to assigned functions and responsibilities.

 

Personnel Relations/Management

The District Technician manages personnel effectively through activities such as the following:

 

  • Assisting campus technology aids in troubleshooting, documenting, and procedural aspects of duties
  • Assist in processing and scheduling technology work orders, assign priority, monitor work in process, and quality control for completions
  • Ship and receive orders and repaired items from vendors. Receive and check RMA’s and vendor deliveries made to the Technology Department
  • Coordinate and update technology procedures
  • Maintain, purchase and control inventory parts in office, campus or district

 

Professional Growth and Development

The District Technician provides leadership in professional growth and development through activities such as the following:

 

  • Attends and contributes to district and department professional learning activities

 

Qualities of an Effective District Technician

Daily attendance and punctuality at work are essential functions of the job

  • Maintain confidentiality
  • Correct unsafe conditions in work area that could cause an accident and inform supervisor of any conditions that are not correctable immediately
  • Shall comply with District policies, as well as state and federal laws and regulations
  • Shall comply with the standards of conduct as set out in Board Policy DH (Legal) and (Local) and with other policies, regulations, and guidelines that impose duties, requirements, and standards

 

Equipment:

Computer, scanner, printers, video equipment, sound systems, projection system, digital equipment, handheld devices, wireless hubs, calculator, telephone, copier, fax machine, and other equipment applicable to position

 

Working Conditions:

Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:

  • Work irregular and extended work hours to include holidays and weekends
  • Work with frequent interruptions and maintain emotional control under stress
  • Prolonged use of computer and telephone, lifting and moving equipment, driving district van or personal vehicle as needed
  • Occasional work on-call and after hours
  • Prolonged hours in emergency equipment situations is required
  • Exposure to electrical hazards; occasional prolonged and irregular hours; frequent districtwide travel; May be required to be on-call 24 hours a day.
  • Regular district-wide travel to multiple work locations as assigned; frequent standing, stooping, bending, reading, pulling, pushing, heavy lifting, and moderate carrying
  • Prolonged sitting and standing; regular kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting
  • Moderate lifting and carrying (up to 44 pounds); occasional heavy lifting (45 pounds and over)
