Description

Primary Purpose:

Assist with daily operation of transportation department by providing regular route and field trip route descriptions to director of transportation and transportation supervisor. Supervise drivers and monitors for routes to include special needs and regular schedules. Supervise the dispatch operations. Prepare and maintain special routes and special needs routes.

               

Qualifications:

Education/Certification:   

  • High School diploma or GED
  • Basic understanding of the routing and field trip software
  • Knowledge of state reporting including operations and routing reports
  • Valid Texas driver’s license (A or B CDL) with passenger/school bus endorsement (minimum)
  • Bus Driver Certification from TEA
  • Current DOT physical
  • Must have a safe driving record verified by Texas Department of Public Safety (meets and maintains liability coverage eligibility)
  • Shall be subject to testing for use of alcohol or controlled substance that violate law or federal regulations
  • Candidate must have satisfactory outcome of fingerprinting background check.  Non-refundable fee (approximately   $50.00)  paid by the employee.

 

Knowledge/Skills:              

  • Familiar with Del Valle ISD preferred
  • Ability to use personal computer and software to develop route, field trips spreadsheets, databases, and do word processing
  • Have ability to communicate effectively (verbally and written)
  • Computer state reporting experience preferred

 

Experience:

  • Two (2) years of school bus driver experience
  • One (1) year of supervisory experience preferred

Organization Management

The route supervisor manages administrative, fiscal, and facilities functions responsibly through activities such as the following:

 

  • Assist or handle assignments of bus drivers, bus routes, vehicles, and substitutes for morning and afternoon shifts.
  • Assist with or coordinate extracurricular transportation.
  • Prepare data required to plan bus route and post route schedule.
  • Prepare special education bus routes and ensure that drivers maintain a route folder with accurate descriptions of their morning and afternoon routes.
  • Coordinate and schedule all summer school routes.
  • Prepare and update district maps showing areas served by each bus. 
  • Supply maps to schools.
  • Write, schedule, and keep regular routes up to date in computer.
  • Assume dispatcher’s duties in absence of the dispatcher.
  • Assist coordinator with special transportation programs.
  • Assist in driver and monitor training.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Equipment:

  • Standard office equipment including computer and peripherals, school bus: two way radio; safety equipment including but not limited to flares, reflective signs, and fire extinguisher, wheelchair lift, ramp, lock, and special needs adaptive equipment, safety equipment.

  • Occasional: lifting/carrying, light, moderate 15-44 pounds
  • Posture: prolonged sitting, standing, twisting, occasional kneeling/squatting, bending, stooping, walking, climbing, balancing, pulling, pushing, reaching, , hearing, speaking clearly, visual acuity, and prolonged data input 
  • Motion: Repetitive hand motions; frequent keyboarding and use of mouse; prolonged driving; moderate walking, climbing stairs, grasping/squeezing, wrist flexion/extension, and reaching
  • Lifting: Limited lifting and carrying (under 15 pounds) on a daily basis
  • Environment: Frequent exposure to extreme hot and cold temperatures, noise, vehicle fumes, regularly work irregular hours, and occasionally work long prolonged hours
  • Mental Demands: Maintain emotional control under stress
