Primary Purpose:

Direct and manage the instructional program and supervise operations and personnel at campus level.  Provide leadership to ensure high standards of instructional service.  Oversee compliance with district policies, success of instructional programs, and operation of all campus activities.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

Education/Certification:

Texas Principal or Mid-Management Certification

Certified Texas Teacher Evaluation & Support System (T-TESS) appraiser

Candidate must have satisfactory outcome of fingerprinting background check. Non-refundable fee (approximately $50) paid by employee.

Bilingual (Spanish) preferred

 

Required Experience:

Three (3) years’ teaching experience

Three (3) years’ experience in a leadership (non-classroom) role

 

Knowledge/Skills:

Knowledge of curriculum and instruction

Ability to evaluate instructional program and teaching effectiveness

Ability to manage budget and personnel

Ability to coordinate campus functions

Ability to interpret policy, procedures, and data

Strong organizational, communication, public relations and interpersonal skills

Ability to analyze data to make instructional decisions

Instructional Management

The administrator promotes improvement of instruction through activities such as the following:

 

  • Monitors instructional and managerial processes to ensure that program activities are related to program outcomes and use findings to take corrective actions.
  • Regularly consults campus-level leaders such as Grade Level Leaders, Department Chairs, and Team Leaders about planning, operation, supervision, and evaluation of campus education program. Includes students and community representatives when appropriate.
  • Provides instructional resources and materials to support teaching staff in accomplishing instructional goals.
  • Assists with and model the use of technology in the teaching/learning process.
  • Fosters collegiality and team building among staff members. Encourage their active involvement in decision-making process.
  • Provides for two-way communication with superintendent, staff, students, parents, and community.
  • Communicates and promotes expectations for high-level performance to staff and students.
  • Recognizes excellence and achievement.
  • Ensures the effective and quick resolution of conflicts.

 

Student Management

The administrator promotes positive student conduct through activities such as the following:

 

  • Works with faculty and students to develop a student discipline management system that results in positive student behavior and enhances the school climate.
  • Ensures that school rules are uniformly observed and that student discipline is appropriate and equitable in accordance with Student Code of Conduct and student handbook.
  • Conducts conferences about student and school issues with parents, students, and teachers.

 

Organizational Improvement

The administrator promotes leadership in efforts to improve the school or organization through activities such as the following:

 

  • Builds common vision for school improvement with staff.  Directs planning activities and put programs in place with staff to ensure attainment of school’s mission and achievement of the Campus Improvement Plan. 
  • Using data, identifies, analyzes, and applies research findings to promote school improvement.
  • Develops and sets annual campus performance objectives for each of the Texas Academic Performance Indicators using the campus planning process and site-based decision making committee.  Demonstrates campus progress using results to promote school improvement. 

 

Personnel Relations/Management

The administrator manages personnel effectively through activities such as the following:

 

  • Makes recommendations to superintendent or designee for hiring, transferring, assigning, termination, suspension, or non-renewal of campus employees in accordance with State and Federal laws and in keeping with certification rules and No Child Left Behind Highly Qualified expectations.
  • Utilizes the online Job Applicant system.
  • Defines expectations for staff performance with regard to instructional strategies, classroom management, and communication with public.
  • Observes employee performance, record observations, and conduct evaluation conferences with staff in accordance with State and Federal law.
  • Works with campus-level planning and decision-making committees to plan professional activities.
  • Confers with staff regarding their professional growth.  Work with them to develop and accomplish improvement goals.

 

Communication and Community Relations

The administrator promotes a positive tone for school or community relations through activities such as the following:

 

  • Articulates and advances the district and campus missions and improvement plans to the community.
  • Demonstrates awareness of school-community needs and oversee activities to meet those needs.
  • Uses appropriate and effective techniques to encourage parent involvement and empowerment.

 

Professional Growth and Development

The administrator provides leadership in professional growth and development through activities such as the following:

 

  • Participates in professional development to improve skills related to job assignment.
  • Leads campus data-driven and research-based professional development activities aligned to district and campus goals.
  • Participates actively in professional associations.
  • Disseminates ideas and information to other professionals.
  • Seeks and uses evaluative information for improvement of performance.

 

 

Qualities of Effective Administrators

The administrator exhibits qualities such as the following:

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Supervises and evaluates the performance of staff assigned to campus including associate principal(s), assistant principal(s), teacher(s), counselor(s), librarian, instructional aides and paraprofessional/clerical support staff.

 

Equipment

Computer, computer software programs and peripherals, teacher resource materials and equipment, printer, copier, scanner, fax and other equipment applicable to the position.

 

Working Conditions

Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:

  • Maintains emotional control under stress.
  • Works with frequent interruptions.
  • Works irregular hour and extended work hours to include holidays and weekends.
  • Frequent walking, standing, stooping, bending, pulling and pushing, lifting, and carrying (may lift and move textbooks and classroom equipment).
  • May be required under specific circumstances to provide physical restraint of students in danger of causing harm to themselves or others.
  • Occasional district wide and statewide travel.
  • Use computer for prolonged period resulting in repetitive hand motion.
  • Frequent exposure to: temperature extremes (hot and cold), humidity extremes, noise, low or intense illumination vibration.
  • Occasional exposure to: biological hazards (communicable diseases, bacteria, etc.), work outside, work around moving objects or vehicles, work on uneven surfaces.
