Primary Purpose:

To provide students with high quality, appropriate and engaging learning activities and experiences designed to help students attain their maximum potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth and to assist the campus staff with continuous improvement through the implementation of the district curriculum and instructional strategies that will directly contribute to increased student achievement.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

Education/Certification               

Valid Texas Teaching Certificate with required endorsements for subject assigned

Candidate must have satisfactory outcome of fingerprinting background check. Non-refundable fee (approximately $50) paid by employee.

 

Experience:

Three (3) years’ teaching experience

Previous coaching or teacher leadership experience

 

Knowledge/Skills:

Broad-based knowledge of the district curriculum and district initiatives/programs which support and are aligned to the curriculum

Broad-based knowledge and training in research-based teaching and learning strategies

Knowledge of developmentally appropriate teaching and learning practices

Knowledge of all special populations represented in the district and the unique needs of these learners

Knowledge and skills in the use of technology as an instructional tool

Demonstrated skills in organization, leadership, communication, problem-solving, facilitation, collaboration, research and team building

Ability to maintain effective communication and working relationships with campus staff

Ability to effectively provide professional development, training, and differentiated supports to adult learners

Seeks resources to support and enhance instruction

Ability to analyze and interpret data and make instructional decisions

Professionalism

The Educators' Code of Ethics is set forth in Texas Administrative Code to provide rules for standard practices and ethical conduct toward students, professional colleagues, school officials, parents, and members of the community.

Instructional Management

The instructional coach promotes improvement of instruction by assisting with activities such as the following:

  • Analyze formative data in order to provide targeted instruction based on student’s individual needs.
  • Improve student achievement through the application of effective classroom practices and instructional strategies.
  • Improve teaching through a variety of methods, such as coaching, model teaching, monitoring, data focused dialogue, etc.
  • Lead and assist in the design, coordination, fidelity of implementation, and evaluation of the campus/department instructional program.
  • Assist in the review, revision, and implementation of the district curriculum.
  • Monitor and adjust teacher supports to attain student achievement.
  • Diagnose student needs and initiate timely instructional adjustments.
  • Help teachers design learning experiences for students.
  • Encourage the development and piloting of innovative instructional programs.
  • Facilitate the planning and application of emerging technologies in the classroom.
  • Ensure all field trips support academic enrichment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by campus administration.

Organization Climate

The instructional coach assists with fostering a positive school or organization morale through activities such as the following:

  • Assess and plan improvement of the school, school district, or community engagement.
  • Reinforce excellence.
  • Promote a positive, caring climate of learning.
  • Use effective communication skills, instructional coaching techniques, and crucial conversations.

Organization Improvement

The instructional coach promotes leadership in efforts to improve the school or organization through activities such as the following:

  • Collaborate in the development and articulation of a common vision of improvement.
  • Ensure continuous renewal of curriculum, policies, and methods.

Communication and Community Relations

The instructional coach promotes a positive tone for school or community relations through activities such as the following:

  • Be a positive role model for students, support the mission of the district.
  • Establish and maintain open communications with parents, students, principals, teachers, and support staff by conducting conferences.
  • Maintain a professional relationship with colleagues, students, parents, and community members.
  • Use effective communication skills to present information accurately and clearly.

Professional Growth and Development

The instructional coach provides leadership in professional growth and development through activities such as the following:

  • Participate in national and state level organizations to stay abreast of latest research and best practices.
  • Attend professional development opportunities related to designated subject area.
  • Read, synthesize, and disseminate research and information related to best practices from books, journals, listservs, websites, and other media formats.
  • Attend meetings and participate in staff development activities to improve job-related skills.

Qualities of an Effective Instructional Coach

The instructional coach exhibits qualities such as the following:

  • Daily attendance and punctuality at work are essential functions of the job.
  • Keep informed of and comply with state, District, and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers.
  • Compile, maintain, and file reports, records, and other documents required.
  • Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required.
  • Correct unsafe conditions in work area that could cause an accident and inform supervisor of any conditions that are not correctable immediately.
  • Shall comply with district policies, as well as state and federal laws and regulations.
  • Shall comply with the standards of conduct set out in Board Policy DH (Legal) and (Local) and with any other policies, regulations, and guidelines that impose duties, requirements, and standards.
  • Maintain confidentiality.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • None

Equipment:

Computer, computer software programs and peripherals, teacher resource materials and equipment, printer, scanner, copier, fax and other equipment applicable to the position.

 

Working Conditions

Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:

  • Maintain emotional control under stress.
  • Work with frequent interruptions.
  • Work irregular hour and extended work hours to include holidays and weekends.
  • Frequent walking, standing, stooping, bending, pulling and pushing, lifting, and carrying (may lift and move textbooks and classroom equipment).
  • May be required under specific circumstances to provide physical restraint of students in danger of causing harm to themselves or others.
  • Occasional district wide and statewide travel.
  • Use computer for prolonged period resulting in repetitive hand motion.
  • Frequent exposure to: temperature extremes (hot and cold), humidity extremes, noise, low or intense illumination vibration.
  • Occasional exposure to: biological hazards (communicable diseases, bacteria, etc.), work outside, work around moving objects or vehicles, work on uneven surfaces.
