Primary Purpose:

Assist the Human Resources team and district hiring managers with recruiting, onboarding, and orienting new employees to the district during the summer. This may include organizing new hire activities, planning employee orientation, and reporting and conducting evaluations to ensure the success of summer hiring processes and new employee orientation.  This position is responsible for providing administrative/technical support to the staff in the Human Resources Department. Errors may result in non-compliance with laws/regulations and in the worst scenario lead to legal action against the District. 

 

Minimum Qualifications:  

Education: Bachelor's Degree in a related field from an accredited college or university required.  Master's Degree preferred.
 

Required Experience:

Experience: Three (3) years of successful classroom teaching experience or related experience. 

 

Knowledge/Skills:

  • This position requires knowledge and skills in the use of personal computers and their software
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and in other computerized applications
  • Knowledge of State, Local, and Federal laws and regulations
  • Ability to use verbal, written, and interpersonal communication effectively
  • Analyze information, problem solve, organize projects, conduct events, manage various types of information effectively through the use of technology
  • Work cooperatively as a team member, and interpret the issues and policies of the Public Education System
  • Incumbent must be able to work hours of the district’s summer schedule and until the assignment is complete: Monday through Thursday 7:00 AM to 5:30 PM
  • Employees in this position must be able to read, write, and speak/communicate in English in order to receive and to provide work-related information in a timely manner to other employees, supervisors, principals, school personnel, volunteers and where appropriate, visitors and students.

  • Prepares and maintains recruiting/staffing reports
  • Assists in the administration of human resources programs (i.e., certification)
  • Responds to applicant and employee inquiries regarding employment issues
  • Assists with the new hire process and prepares payroll paperwork
  • Assists with and/or leads new employee orientation
  • Maintains promotional materials and keeps regular inventory
  • Assists with the recruitment of filling district vacancies
  • Perform other related duties as assigned; however, all employees are expected to comply with lawful directives in rare situations driven by need where a team effort is required
  • Maintain professional contact with school employees including school administration, the general public, alternative certification programs and universities, and public agencies.

 

Communication and Community Relations

The summer staffing specialist promotes a positive tone for school or community relations through activities such as the following:

 

  • Keeps supervisor informed of matters which might require her attention.
  • Prepares correspondence, forms, and reports.
  • Serves as district resource person to administrators, employees, applicants, and candidates.
  • Provides weekly updates to the coordinator and assistant director on issues related to Human Resources.

 

Qualities of an Effective Summer Staffing Specialist

The summer staffing specialist exhibits the following qualities:

 

  • Daily attendance and punctuality at work are essential functions of the job.
  • Follows established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties, including lifting, climbing, etc.
  • Maintains confidentiality of information.
  • Corrects unsafe conditions in work area and report any conditions that are not correctable to supervisor immediately.
  • Complies with district policies, as well as state and federal laws and regulations.
  • Complies with the standards of conduct as set out in Board Policy DH (Legal) and (Local) and with any other policies, regulations, and guidelines that impose duties, requirements, or standards.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Equipment:

Computer, printer, calculator, multi-line telephone, copier, fax machine, scanner, shredder, and other equipment applicable to the position.   

 

Working Conditions:

  •  Maintains emotional control under stress.
  • Works with frequent interruptions.
  • Frequent walking, standing, stooping, bending, pulling and pushing.
  • Occasional light lifting and carrying (15-44 pounds). 
  • Occasional district wide travel.
  • Uses computer for prolonged period resulting in repetitive hand motion.
  • Frequent exposure to: temperature extremes (hot and cold), humidity extremes, noise, low or intense illumination vibration.
